Market Pulp Seminar
About the Speakers: Dr. Hiroki Nanko He obtained his Ph.D. degree from Kyoto University, Japan. He worked for Japan Pulp and Paper Research Institute as a Principal Research Scientist from 1983 to 1996. Dr. Nanko joined IPST in 1996 as a Visiting Professor. He was an Associate Professor of Fiber Physics at IPST from 1997 to 2003. His research areas include Fiber Physics, Paper Physics and Microscopy. He is well know as a leading microscopist in the pulp and paper area. His current research interests are related to interfiber bonding (IB) “from the cradle to the grave”: structure and properties of bonds, formation and breakage of bonds, improvement of IB by mechanical treatments, mechanisms of bonding agents, and non-traditional use of pulp fiber. He has published more than 45 papers. He received the “Outstanding Paper Award” at the 7th
International Drying Symposium in 1990 and the “Japan TAPPI
Prize” in 1988
Dr. Alan F. Button He is a member of TAPPI, PAPTAC and AAAS. He also serves on the Executive Board of Lake States TAPPI and the Board of Directors of the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame. Al holds B.S. and M.S. degrees from The Penn State University in Wood Science and Technology. He earned an M.S. and Ph.D. from The Institute of Paper Chemistry in Paper and Fiber Physics. Mr. Dave Hillman. Dave combines rare professional skills in that he is both an experienced papermaker, product development and new product manager as well as a acknowledged student of all the various papermaking fibers. In addition to being a student of both papermaking fibers and pulps for non-traditional applications, he has focused intensively on the most appropriate end use applications for each particular species of fiber. He earned his engineering degree from Georgia Tech after which he worked for MeadWestvaco, Wood Pulp International and as Hammermill's Market Pulp sales manager. His extensive experience in the fine papers and market pulp business now spans some 46 years. |
