IP's John Faraci elected as chairman of AF&PA

Feb 18, 2008 — AF&PA

WASHINGTON, February 18, 2008 (press release) — John V. Faraci, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of International Paper, has been elected Chairman of the Board of the American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA), the national trade association of the forest, paper, and wood products industry. Mr. Faraci comes to the helm of the Association at a critical time with major policy debates on climate change, energy, and the economy underway, and a landmark election on the horizon.

“AF&PA has a long record of getting things done in Washington and in state capitols around the country,” said Faraci. “It is a privilege to lead an organization that speaks for over a million employees in the U.S. In the coming year we will face many policy challenges and opportunities, and I look forward to meeting them head on.”

AF&PA President & CEO Donna Harman added, “At IP, John has been a tireless advocate for our industry for over thirty years, so we are honored to have a leader with his knowledge and expertise as Chairman. He brings unparalleled experience to the Association, and I look forward to working with him this year to continue AF&PA’s tradition of environmental stewardship and issue advocacy.”

In November 2003, Mr. Faraci was named Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of International Paper, where he has served in various capacities since 1974.

Mr. Faraci earned a Bachelor of Science degree in history and economics from Denison University and a Master’s degree in business administration from the University of Michigan. He and his wife, Heath, have two daughters, and reside in Memphis, Tennessee, where International Paper is headquartered.
