TAPPI and PIMA Team up for 2004 Student
Summit
December 9, 2003—The Technical Association of the Pulp and
Paper Industry [TAPPI] and the Paper Industry Management
Association [PIMA] are teaming up to present the 2004 Student
Summit.
The 2004 TAPPI PIMA Student Summit will be held in Baton Rouge,
Louisiana, January 17th to 19th. The Summit is an excellent
opportunity for undergraduate students to learn both about
opportunities after graduation as well as the current state of
the paper industry and some of its key issues and
opportunities. The purpose of the Student Summit is to provide
students interested in pulp, paper, and allied industries direct
interaction with industry leaders and to provide valuable
information on employment opportunities within the industry.
The host for this year’s Student Summit is
Georgia-Pacific’s Port Hudson Mill. One of the highlights of
the event will be a mill tour and in-depth discussion of the
mill’s operations. The program will also include sessions on
the State of the Industry and Technical Innovation. Dr. Gary Peter
from the University of Florida will discuss the promise of
Biotechnology and how it will impact innovation in the paper
industry. Other sessions will provide insights into Agenda 2020,
the forest products industry’s strategic plan for the future.
Agenda 2020 is a plan for the success of the Forest Products
industry through a collaborative partnership between industry,
government, and academia.
